OVERVIEW
Designed and built a household electricity consumption measuring device based on Arduino Mega, using a PZEM sensor that communicates over RS485 through a TTL to RS485 converter. The results met the expectations: an IoT system that displays Energy Consumption in kWh, Average Energy in kWh, Power Usage in Watts, Average Power in Watts, Active Time in hours, and Total Cost in Rupiah. Information is shown on an LCD, and real-time notifications help users optimize their power consumption.
THE CHALLENGE
- Sensor readings had to be retrieved reliably over RS485 and combined into one consistent set of measurements.
- Raw electrical readings needed to be turned into information that is easy to understand, such as usage and cost in Rupiah.
THE SOLUTION
- Connected the PZEM sensor to the Arduino Mega through a TTL to RS485 converter.
- Wrote firmware in Arduino IDE that calculates energy, average power, active time, and total cost.
- Displayed the results on a 16x2 I2C LCD.
- Added real-time notifications through a Telegram bot to support power consumption optimization.
